April 19, 2006 (Boca Raton, Fla.) - The Haven announced today
that the Florida Hurricane Relief Fund has made a grant of
$34,226 to The Haven to assist in recovery from Hurricane Wilma.
"Nonprofits are essential to the
quality of life for Florida's citizens. With a generous donation
from The Home Depot, the Florida Hurricane Relief Fund is
pleased to assist The Haven in recovery from Hurricane Wilma,"
said Liza McFadden, President of nonprofit Volunteer Florida
Foundation, which manages the Florida Hurricane Relief Fund.
"This grant should go a long way in helping The Haven recover
from hurricane damage and stay on track in helping the citizens
of its community."
The Haven is one of 20
nonprofits receiving grants totaling $1 million from the Florida
Hurricane Relief Fund. The Fund issued a request for proposals
to nonprofit organizations in the nine-county area hardest hit
by Hurricane Wilma. Grant decisions were made by a committee of
three teams of reviewers composed of nonprofit, business and
emergency service representatives.. The Fund received more than
$12 million in requests from nonprofit organizations needing
assistance to recover from Hurricane Wilma damage.
The Florida Hurricane Relief
Fund was established by Governor Bush in 2004 to help with
hurricane recovery needs not met by government and insurance and
has proven instrumental in the 2005 recovery. The fund is fueled
entirely by private-sector donations. Since its inception, the
fund has raised more than $23 million in pledges, donations and
in-kind services to aid Florida communities with hurricane
recovery. It is managed by the nonprofit Volunteer Florida
Foundation. All donations are tax deductible. To donate securely
