January 11, 2007 (Boca Raton, FL) - The Haven is proud to announce the receipt of two grants from the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties. A grant of $11,076 from the Foundation's new Mosaic Fund will be applied toward the Hands-on-Art program and a General Grantmaking Program grant for second-year award of $22,000 will be used for the Life Skills program.
The Hands-on-Art program offers The Haven's young men a valuable creative outlet to showcase their talents. Additionally, the Life Skills program teaches independent living skills and economic self-reliance. It provides the knowledge and tools necessary for transition to independent living at age 18 as required by the Road to Independence Act.
Shannon Sadler Hull, the Foundation's President and CEO said, "The Community Foundation is pleased to help sustain two wonderful programs. We know that the young participants will benefit greatly and find more opportunities to succeed as a result of time spent at the Haven."
Founded in 1972, the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties builds endowment funds that will benefit communities today, tomorrow and forever. The Foundation seeks to improve quality of life in Palm Beach and Martin counties through grants to nonprofit organizations, scholarships to students pursuing college degrees and other post-secondary education and community leadership initiatives. The Foundation's grantmaking concentrates on the areas of Arts and Culture, Community/Economic Development, Education, Environment, Health and Human Services, Human and Race Relations, and Intergenerational Programs.
The Haven is an alternative home for young men, ages 11 to 18, who have been placed in our protective care by the State of Florida.
