June 14, 2007 (Boca Raton, Fla.) - The South
Palm Beach County Region of ORT America continues its long-standing support of
The Haven, an alternative home for young men ages 9 up to 18, through its
Adopt-A-Shelf campaign. Kay Freedman, chair of the campaign, delivered a range
of Harry Potter books and National Geographic magazines for the young men to
enjoy. Lauren Dean, development manager at The Haven, accepted the donation on
behalf of them.
"We focus on academic skill books during the school terms and on books for
leisure reading during the summer months," Freedman said. "After inquiring of
the young men at The Haven, the preference was the Harry Potter books by a large
margin for their summer vacation."
ORT America periodically donates a wide variety of new books, including titles
on the schools' required reading lists, to the young men at The Haven. Their
generosity allows for the young men to choose from a variety of books, from
classic to educational and vocational subjects, for their reading enrichment.
"ORT America's focus on literacy and their generosity has certainly been
beneficial to our boys," said Dean. "Over the years, the group has opened our
boys' minds to the pleasures of reading."
ORT America has programs in more than 60 countries, providing marketable skills
necessary to achieve productive lives and a positive self-esteem for economic
security. For more information, visit
