3, 2007 (Boca Raton, Fla.) - Publix Super Markets Charities has continued its
long-standing support of The Haven, an alternative home for young men ages 9 up
to 18, with a gift of $8,000. The money will be used for The Haven's educational
program, AIM - Academic Inspiration and Motivation. AIM helps The Haven's young
men to increase standardized test scores, encourage homework mastery and
completion and improve their GPAs.
Since 1997, Publix Super Markets Charities has donated close to $40,000 to The
Haven.
"Publix Super Markets Charities has long believed in our program," said Angie
Bailey, program director at The Haven. "Thanks to their continued support of
AIM, our boys benefit from caring tutors, and we have seen their GPAs rise
exponentially."
The Haven's AIM program is a multi-faceted academic advocacy effort and
after-school program that provides tutoring, school-focused advocacy and
training in academic skills. The program aims to foster inspiration and create a
passion for learning and critical thinking, while assisting the young men with
the timely completion of assigned schoolwork.
The Haven is an alternative home for young men, ages 9 up to 18, who have been
placed in our protective care by the State of Florida. Our program is designed
to foster the development of each young man's self-esteem and independence in a
safe, loving and stable alternative home while teaching the skills necessary for
them to become self-sufficient and proud adults. The Haven is an accredited
organization through COA, the Council on Accreditation and has received three
consecutive four-star ratings from Charity Navigator, a national charity
watchdog. For more information on how you can help the young men at The Haven
