The Haven Receives Donation From Florida Marlins Community Foundation

Boca Raton, FL - The Haven is pleased to announce the receipt of a $1,000 donation from The Florida Marlins Community Foundation (FMCF) to support The Haven's Academic Inspiration & Motivation Tutoring Program [AIM]. The donation represents the second year the FMCF has supported the organization.

"We are pleased to once again receive a generous donation from the FMCF," said Don Stewart, The Haven's executive director. "The funds will be used to meet the individual needs of the academically-challenged youth in our care.

The Haven's AIM tutoring program supports the young men in the areas of organizational and learning skills, math, reading, writing and science. Through a system of partnership and reward for improvement, each young man sets academic and work-related goals and works to fulfill them under the guidance of a specially-trained, caring tutor.

Placement into the tutoring program is designed to overcome educational delays and deficiencies and to provide additional support to the young men with learning disabilities while steering them toward graduation from high school.

The Florida Marlins Community Foundation (FMCF) was established in January 1999. Revenue is generated from five sources: player contributions, corporate sponsorships, grants, events and ongoing programs. The foundation's purpose is to promote educational, athletic, health, social and community service programs with a particular focus on South Florida's youth.

The Haven, founded in 1976, is a group home for adolescent boys, ages 9-17, who have been removed from abusive and neglectful homes and placed in protective care by the State of Florida. From their five-acre campus in Boca Raton, the Haven provides programs designed to foster the development of each young man's self-esteem and independence. In a safe, loving and stable environment, the young men are taught the skills necessary for them to become self-sufficient and proud adults. The Haven is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA), and recently received its fourth-consecutive four-star rating from Charity Navigator, a national charity watchdog group.
